Pak court adjourns Sharif's corruption trial
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Attock (Pak), June 19: The corruption trial of ousted Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was adjourned today until next week as he could not attend the proceedings, court officials said.

Judges Farrukh Latif, acting on a prosecution motion, put off the trial until June 26 when Sharif could attend.

Sharif was moved from his cell at a high-security for there last week to appear before the Sindh High Court in Karachi, where he is appealing a life sentence for hijacking and terrorism handed down in April.

He was toppled from power in a military coup in October.

The corruption case relates to his alleged efforts to cancel the purchase of a Russian Mi-8 helicopter in 1993.

The judge has also indicated Sharif's close aide and former chairman of his anti-corruption accountability bureau, Saifur Rehman, for facilitating the purchase.
