Strike cripples Tutincorin port
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Tuticorin, June 19: Cargo handling work in the Tuticorin Port continued to be crippled as the indefinite strike by over 1,800 port workers to protest against the alleged assault on a worker by the CISF personnel entered the third day today.

Of the ten vessels at the berth, coal and container from two vessels only have been cleared and the rest were at anchorage.

According to officials, the port workers were holding dharna for the past nine days demanding some facilities from the port management.

A port worker who was on dharna was allegedly assaulted by the CISF personnel following an altercation on Friday last. Officials said the striking workers demanded apology from the CISF personnel and also action against those CISF men responsible for assaulting the workers.
