DF govt benefitting `education mafia' -- Gadkari
MUMBAI, JUNE 28: Leader of the opposition in the legislative council Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday alleged that the recent decisions of the state government on higher and technical education were taken for the benefit of the educational institutes, run by Congress and NCP functionaries, whose annual turnover was to the tune of Rs 500 crore. Addressing a press conference here, Gadkari said the decisions of the Democratic Front (DF) government to raise the higher and technical education fees and to reserve quota for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), were taken only for the benefit of politicians, whom he described as ``education mafias''. He said he had written to the union minister of state for finance Dhananjay Kumar urging him to investigate into the financial transactions of the politicians running these educational institutes. He came down heavily on the reservation for the NRI quota and apprehended that the institutions running unaided engineering colleges would use the quota to earn money as there were chances of several seats remaining vacant. ``The admissions to the NRI quota should be centralised,'' he demanded.
