Teenager kills alcoholic mother
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NAGPUR, JUNE 30: In a bizarre incident, a 36-year-old widow was killed by her teenaged son for often returning home, from work, in an inebriated condition and harassing the latter. The police have since arrested the son for murder.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday at village Taamaswadi where the victim, Vimal Gopalrao Lakadkar, was staying with her three sons. Vimal's husband, Gopalrao, passed away five years ago and she got a job on compassionate grounds with the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) at Silewara.

Sometime during this period, she took to drinking and would often return home in an inebriated condition, police said, adding that her son, Sanjay, disliked her wayward ways.

On Monday, Vimal returned home once again in an inebriated condition and picked up an altercation with Sanjay. She started beating her son when the latter retaliated and assaulted her, police said. Later, Sanjay used his mother's saree to strangulate her, police added.

Initially, a case of unnatural death was registered by the Parsheoni police when they were reported that Vimal had died of excessive drinking. Post-mortem findings revealed that Vimal had died of asphyxia. The ensuing probe led to the arrest of Sanjay. Further investigations were on.
