UP Cong to cash in on BJP's "eroding" support base
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Lucknow, June 30: Buoyed by the drubbing received by the ruling BJP at the recently concluded Panchayat elections in the state, the Congress is gearing itself up to regain the confidence of the people.

State unit Congress Chief Salman Khurshid told PTI that BJP is "finished" in the state and the Congrecs is the "only" party which can provide an alternative.

He said his party would launch agitational programmes all over the state starting from the first week of July against the "failure of the Ram Prakash Gupta Government on all fronts and also to mobilise public opinion in favour of the Congress".

Acussing the state government of having indulged in "massive rigging and manipulation of results", the Congress leader said his party has made its presence felt in the Panchayat polls in several districts and would now work on strengthening the organisation at the grass-root level.
