PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

MIDNAPORE, JULY 4: The mutilated and decomposed body of a man stated to be a Trinamool Congress (TC) supporter has been recovered at Pingla area of West Bengal's Midnapore district, police said.

Ghanashyam Adhikari, whose body was stated to be recovered on Monday from near a canal at Changkhali area, was missing since June 30 when TC actvists clashed with CPM and CPI members at Pingla, the police said. The body was without its head and legs, the police said.

About 200 TC and BJP supporters staged demonstration in front of Pingla police station demanding the arrest of the culprits. Local TC leader Gour Gharai alleged that CPM activists tried to attack TC workers who had accompanied the police to Changkhali.

About 300 BJP and TC activists also staged a demonstration at Garbeta in the district to protest the alleged "police inaction" to arrest the CPM attackers.
