Free Phone

The recent announcement by the Ministry of Telecommunications that Telecom staffs are being offered a complementary package of Rentel Free Telephone accompanied with:

  • Free Telephone Registration Fee
  • Free Connection Charges &
  • 150 Free Calls per 15 days

All the above facilities are being given for those who don't ever bother to work for the pay what they are getting. For instance when actual timings of the Telephone Office is between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Most of the staffs are coming to work around 11 a.m. and later and leaving the office by 4 p.m./ 4.30 p.m. This is the common scene one cannot refuse who goes to the Telephone office for various reasons.
  • Even for a usual line fault though we give complaints through Computer Voice Response System the linemen will come to our door to collect something. This is still happening.
  • There are excess staffs in govt. organisations and the workdone has to be calculated and monitored at each level so that employees will be controlled to some extent.

First of all Telecom Dept. should upgrade the service which is not at all at the satisfactory level. The Board should strictly insist all the Telecom Offices to do better service to the customers, maintain the working hours, severe action to be taken on staffs & line men who demands bribe etc. Leaving all these if govt. is going to dump all the facilities then the whole system is going to collapse in the near future.
We don't understand on what basis the Ministry has taken such a step to offer this free package which costs Rs. 1,200 Crores loss to the Govt. whereas our economy is already sinking resulting which the Govt. has increased the prices of Petrol, LPG, Kerosene, Rice etc. etc. On behalf of public who are shocked to hear the facilities being offered to Government employees I urge the Ministry of Telecommunications (Today Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan & tomorrow some XYZ) should not to take these hasty decision which pushes our Country to a very worst economy which inturn leads to increase in prices of Petrol, Diesel, Sugar, Electricity etc.
Whatever price increase is an increase for the private employees only & for Govt. employees it is being offset by way of increase in Dearness Allowance. This attitude of Govt. is harassing the citizens of India as a whole. Govt. should always treat their citizens as a whole and not as Govt. employees & Private employees. If the Telecom Ministry decided to offer "Rent Free Telephones" then it should apply to all who has telephones. The Telecom Ministry would take necessary action to withdraw the "Rentel Free Telephones to Telecom Staffs only".
