NTPC plans 2000 MW LNG power plant

BANGALORE, JULY 10: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has decided to establish a 2000 MW gas-based power plant near Mangalore, the west coast region of Karnataka, Union Minister for Power P R Kumaramangalam said here today.

Four months ago, Karnataka had signed a MoA with the Centre to usher in reforms in the power sector and in turn the Centre promised several benefits, including supply of power from central grid. Kumaramangalam said a decision to set up the gas-based power generating unit was taken today and the Centre would accord formal approval on receiving request proposal from the Karnataka government.

Krishna described the announcement by Kumaramangalam as an important `milestone for the state' and said he would submit the proposal at the earliest.
