Measures to prevent further deaths of peacocks
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

BHOPAL, JULY 10: The Morena district administration has implemented a number of measures with the help of Agriculture, Veterinary and Forest Department officials to prevent further deaths of peacocks, the toll of which has mounted to 80.

The cause of deaths in Sitapur village and Maharajpur villages have been attributed to brain haemorrhage due to consumption of pesticide-laced Bajra seeds, an official release said here today.

The Agriculture Department is advising farmers to take suitable measures and erect fencing around their fields.

The officers of Agriculture, Forest and Veterinary Departments have advised farmers to keep water-filled pots on outskirts of their fields for the affected peacocks so that on consumption of water the intensity of the poison gets reduced and the birds could be saved.

The farmers have been asked not to allow the peacocks to enter their fields during sowing.
