Parthiva Sureshwaran scores his maiden win

New Delhi, July 10: India's Parthiva Sureshwaren raced to his maiden victory in Formula Asia 2000 Championships winning the second leg, which was held at the Shah Alam racing circuit, Malaysia on July 8-9.

After securing pole position in the qualifying race held on Friday, Parthiva maintained his lead throught the three races and ended up logging a tally of 73 points. After the end of the second leg, in the seven-leg championship, Parthiva is followed by Team Meritus, Malaysia's NG Wai Leong (62 points) and Mark Goddard of Ghiasorts Racing, Great Britain (49 points).

During this event, Parthiva also clinched the coveted tag of "The fastest Indian in Asia" beating the 1996 lap record of his well-known predecessor Narain Karthikeyan. Parthiva clocked 1 minute, 29.099 seconds.

All the three races of this leg demonstrated the grit and tenacity of this young Indian champion supported by JK Tyres. Though Parthiva failed to complete the first race, but won the next two, leaving behind Goddard and Leong.
