MP govt ready to compensate land to CJ
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

BHOPAL, AUG 3: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Thursday said the State Government was ready to either give compensation or alternate land to the Supreme Court Chief Justice Dr A S Anand and his family members in view of the court orders favouring the latter in a land dispute case involving the State Government and the family.

"It is for Mala Anand and Sushila Singh to state whether they want compensation or alternate land in Chanderi tehsil of Guna district for their agricultural land," Singh told newsmen here

"The cost of the land would be determined as per the law on the basis of price of lands in the concerned tehsil but the Government will not include the cost on its development," he said to a query.

Replying to a question, the Chief Minister said the government had decided to accept the court decision and withdraw its special leave petition in the Supreme Court after losing the case in the courts of judicial magistrate, the district court and the High Court.

He said it was unfortunate that a controversy was raked up over the issue involving the former law minister Ram Jethmalani and the Attorney General.
