Christians to pray for Secular, Democratic India on Sunday

NEW DELHI, AUG 11: Thousands of christians from Delhi and surrounding areas will gather at Rajghat on Sunday to observe a day-long fast and will pray for strengthening the secular and democratic traditions of India.

``The fast and prayer is the Christian response to the continuing violence, hate campaign and official harassment of religious persons, institutions and human rights activists,'' a Delhi catholic archidiocese said today in a statement.

The community will also express solidarity with all victims of violence, including innocent Hindu pilgrims, newsmen and common people belonging to all religions killed in cross-border terrorism in Kashmir, it said.

Members of other communities, human rights and civil rights activists are also expected to join the Christians on the ocassion.
