Six killed in firing along LOC
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA


JAMMU, AUG 11: Six people, including three Pakistani soldiers and two Indian Army jawans, were killed and two jawans injured in heavy exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district today, a Defence spokesman said here.

Pakistani troops resorted to a heavy firing and mortarshelling on an Army vehicle carrying a maulvi (religious priest) and some soldiers to a forward post in sunderbani sector this morning, the spokesman said.

Maulvi and two soldiers were killed on the spot and twoother jawans received injuries in the firing resorted to by Pakistani troops, he said, adding in the retailatory action, three Pakistani soldiers were also killed.

This unprovoked heavy firing from across the border isyet another attempt by Pakistan to escalate the situation on the line of control, the spokesman said.
