FTII students go on strike, want new course structure scrapped
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

PUNE, AUG 29: Students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) here went on a strike from on Tuesday demanding scrapping of new structure of the three year course.

The students have alleged that the new structure (1+1+1) is fundamentally flawed and detrimental to a healthy learning atmosphere which a premier institute like FTII should provide and demanded that FTII should revert to the earlier pattern.

The authorities received the notice for the strike with a charter of demands on Monday. However, there has been no positive response from the concerned authorities so far, the Students Association of FTII said in a release.

The students have been boycotting classes for the last 12 days and had also made representations to the Academic Council, Governing Council and the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley in this regard, it said.

On August 25, the students met all the members of the faculty including the `G-14' members. The G-14 is a committee comprising 14 members of the Faculty, who claim to have devised this new structure, the release added.
