AGENCIES

SYDNEY, SEPTEMBER 15: India will take the first shot ever for a medal at the Olympics shooting with Anjali Vedpathak and Anwar Sultan, aiming at the bull's eye on Saturday. Last minute entrant wild card holder Ved Pathak and qualifier Anwar will be seen in action in the women's air rifle and men's trap events respectively. Anjali, Anwar and junior world record holder Abhinav Bindra are the Indian medal prospects in the mega show. Expectations are high particularly on Anwar and Abhinav, who have done extremely well in the international events during the past one year.

Shuttlers in a spot in badminton the luck of draw was not in favour of the Indian shutters Pullela Gopichand and Aparna Popat. Gopi, who has got a first round bye, opens his campaign against Vladislav Druzchenko of Ukraine.

If he gets past the Ukrainian rival Gopi clashes with second-seeded Hendrawan of Indonesia.
