Suryanelli -- 21 convicts file appeal in HC
KOCHI, SEPT 19: Twenty-one of the 35 persons convicted and sentenced in the sensational Suryanelli sex scandal case today filed appeals in the High Court, along with their petition for suspension of the sentence imposed by the Special Court, Kottayam. Two had filed appeals last week. The appeals have been posted on September 19. Usha (accused No 2), Jamal (accused 3), Raji (4), Cherian (5), Jose (7), Srikumar (8), Jacob Spephen (10), Aji (11) Satheesan (12), Aliyar (13), Muhammed Yousuf (14), Davood (15), Thulasidharan (16), Mohanan (17), Mathew Joseph (19), Jiji (22), Joseph Cheerankuzhy alias Baby (24), Varghese (27), George alias Georgekutty (28), Antony (Baji)- 31), Babu Mathew (35) and Mary (Ammini - 38) are those who have challenged their conviction and sentence. The Special Court had convicted 35 persons for raping an eighth standard school girl belonging to Suryanelli and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for periods varying from 4 years to 13 years and to pay fine ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
