Police sets out a security guideline of dos and don't
September 25: The Mumbai police have issued a six-point guideline to politicians and political party workers, especially those of the Shiv Sena and BJP, on the precautions they should take for their own safety. This follows the increase of threat perception from the Chhota Shakeel gang after the shootout at the Vile Parle hsakha of the Shiv Sena on Sunday night. Interestingly, the police had apparently anticipated such hits in the wake of the failed attempt on Chhota Rajan in Bangkok and the withdrawal of security cover to politicians a few months ago. Crime Branch officials had alerted all MLAs, shakha pramukhs as well as vibhagh pramukhs on the possibility of murderous assault on them or attacks on Sena offices to create terror in the area. Sena shakhas in Andheri and Vile Parle were particularly warned. ``A senior Inspector from the crime branch had visited us on September 21 to brief us on the possibility of attack. Besides meeting senior party office bearers, the inspector had specifically instructed that the Parle shakha should not be opened for another 15 days or till there is a fresh message from the Crime Branch. We were taking all precautions, but the gangsters attacked our worker Ramakant Hadkar,'' a senior Shiv Sena leader said. Former Chief Minister Narayan Rane has condemned the attack, saying, it was unfortunate that despite threat to senior party leaders, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has withdrawn security cover of Sena leaders for obvious political reasons. ``The ill-advised decision has encouraged the gangsters to create terror in the metropolis. I feel better sense will prevail and the Chief Minister will intervene to restore the security of not only the sena leaders, but all politicians, whose life is in danger,'' Rane added. Meanwhile, the precautionary note contains details of what a person should do or not do in various situations. Ofcourse, the Shiv Sena has made light of the circular issued by the police, saying, instead of issuing such advisory notes, the government should enhance the security of senior sena leaders, who are likely targets for the underworld elements. complete 1.
