Bruzon, Yuanyuan are world junior chess champs

CHENNAI, OCTOBER 2: Lazaro Bruzon of Cuba and Xu Yuanyuan of China are the new World junior champions. Bruzon won the junior title at Yerevan (Armenia) on Sunday by beating Acs of Hungary in the 12th round and then drawing with Solak in the 13th and last round for an overall tally of 10 points.

Kamil Miton of Poland and Karen Asrian of Armenia (both 8.5 pts) took the silver and bronze respectively.

India's Sasikiran (8) lost to Malakhov in the last round and failed to get into the medal list. Harikrishna (7) suffered defeats in the last two rounds while Ganguly (7.5) scored 1.5 points from the last two rounds.

Xu Yuanyuan won the girls championship and the WGM title with 10.5 points. Olga Zimina of Russia (9) and Wang Yu of China (8.5) came second and third respectively.

Nisha Mohota collected 1.5 points from the last two rounds to finish with 7.5 points while Aarthie Ramaswamy beat Pina in the last round to take her tally to 7.5 points.
