Bibi Jagir Kaur named in FIR, goes underground
S.P. SINGH

CHANDIGARH, OCTOBER 7: The CBI has named Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee chief Bibi Jagir Kaur as the first accused in the FIR filed in the case of her daughter Harpreet Kaur's death last April. Her gunman and relative Nishan Singh is the second accused, it is learnt. They have been charged with culpable homicide (not amounting to murder), wrongful confinement and conspiracy.

Bibi is yet to be arrested and remained untraceable for the second day today. Top police and administration officials remained tight-lipped about her whereabouts.

CBI Investigating Officer Harbhajan Ram told The Indian Express from New Delhi that neither Jagir Kaur nor Nishan Singh had been arrested today. He failed to give reasons for not doing so.

CBI special branch officers also interrogated the five accused, including Jagir Kaur's close aides Paramjit Singh Raipur and his sister-in-law Dalwinder Kaur, in Delhi today, sources said.

CBI sleuths questioned Kamaljit, the Begowal youth who claims to have married Harpreet against Jagir Kaur's wishes. Kamaljit's sister Manjit Kaur and younger brother Simarjit Kaur also accompanied Kamaljit to Delhi.

Seven more people, including a driver, an ASI and a havaldar were questioned here in the UT Guest House between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., sources said. All the police personnel questioned by CBI officials belonged to Jagir Kaur's security set-up.
