First foreign flight lands in Afghanistan
Islamabad, Oct 9: Afghanistan has received its first foreign commercial aircraft at southern city of Kandahar despite UN economic and aviation sanctions on Taliban. The plane, belonging to a UAE-based private airlines Dlfian, brought 14 passengers from Sharjah, Taliban spokesman Abdul Hai Mutmaen said on Sunday. Afghanistan Ministry of Aviation and the Dlfian Airlines have signed an agreement under which Dlfian will carry out one weekly flight to Afghanistan, Mutmaen said. He said that Taliban authorities have waived off all taxes for the Dlfian airlines. The United Nations Security Council imposed economic and aviation sanctions against the Taliban last year after they refused to hand over international terrorist Osama bin Laden for trial in the US embassies bombings in Africa.
