Christian prayer houses set on fire in Phulbani

PHULBANI, OCTOBER 9: Tension gripped areas under two police stations in Baliguda subdivision of Phulbani district following attacks on four Christian prayer houses last week, according to delayed information received at the district police office here today.

Miscreants vandalised two pucca prayer houses belonging to the Roman Catholic and Baptist denominations at Sindhipankala village under Tumudibandh police station on October 3 while another prayer house was set on fire at Lankagarh under Belghar police station the same night.

Another pucca prayer house was set on fire at Ramgiri village under Belghar police station on the night of October 4, the reports said.

No arrests had been made yet. The police had registered cases under sections 295(a), 427, 436 and 34 of the IPC.

The DIG of Police, Biswnath Hota, District Collector Chandrasekhar Kumar and Superintendent of Police P S Ranapise had gone to the area.
