Karunanidhi asks I&B Ministry to stop discrimination
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

CHENNAI, NOV 5: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has written to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj, asking her to ensure that Doordarshan did not discriminate between Hindi films and regional language films.

An official press release said here today that the Chief Minister had drawn the Union Minister's attention to the recent decision of Prasar Bharati Corporation to stop telecast of regional language films on its National Channel and instead show only Hindi films.

He also referred to the decision to raise the payment for Hindi films shown on Doordarshan from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh and to continue payment to regional language films telecast by the respective Doordarshan Kendras at the present rate of Rs one lakh.

As these decisions would create disparities among the languages in the country, they should be immediately withdrawn and Doordarshan must be asked to give equal importance on its National Channel to Hindi films and regional language films, Karunanidhi said in his letter.
