EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

CALCUTTA, NOV 5: The Trinamool Congress today fired its first major salvo against Chief Minister designate Buddhadev Bhattacharya at a huge rally at Esplanade area in central Calcutta.

``A person who held the portfolio of Home (Police) for the last three years and miserably failed in that front is going to be elevated to the post of Chief Minister,'' Pankaj Banerjee, MLA and chairman of the policy-making body of the party said while addressing the rally. ``This will lead the state to disaster,'' he claimed.

He also alleged that while the state was ravaged by an unprecedented flood affecting, about three crore people, the Marxists were busy changing chief ministers. ``They are busy organising farewellls and other ceremonies for the outgoing CM and the CM designate. Bhattacharya who along with finance minister Ashim Dasgupta was in overall charge of the state's relief and rescue operations. And look how they have bungled it,'' Banerjee said.

Other leaders who addressed the rally were Sudip Bandopadhyay, MP, Shovon Dev Chattopadhyay, MLA Mala Roy, Mayor-in-Council, Calcutta Municipal Corporation, etc.
