My birthday gift to brother Govind
Arjun atwal

mew delhi, november 5 : OH! What a relief. I have tried hard to keep my head clear and focussed but having been in contention for one title or the other over the last six weeks, I was beginning to wonder when my turn would come to lift the cup. Well it finally did. And I am so happy to have won the Hero Honda Masters in front of my family and friends. I am sure it is as big a moment for my father and mother, who have been such a source of inspiration for me and who follow my career with such keen interest. And of course my wife, Sona, who has been forcing me to stay fit and stay focussed.

As for my brother, Govind, it is my way of giving him a birthday gift. It was his birthday on Saturday and we are all going to have double celebrations tonight before I fly off to Hong Kong for another tournament. As for my game, I am very happy with it. For the past few weeks I have felt that I have it in me to win. I have been close, but it was not coming together. This week I played four good rounds, made few mistakes and the result showed. In four days, I three-putted once on each day and those were the only bogeys for me. I was consistent and solid right through and I know when I play like this I am sure to win more often. It is an honour and a pleasure to take the title from my friend, Jyoti Randhawa, who had it for the last two years. There were many others like Mukesh Kumar, Gaurav Ghei, who was unfortunate with a two-shot penalty yesterday and a quadruple bogey on the 13th today, and Jeev Milkha Singh who played well in patches.

Harmeet Kahlon and Uttam Singh Mundy also finished in top 20. So with seven players in top 20, Indian golf is really on the upswing. Sponsors like Mr Pawan Kant Munjal of Hero Honda Motors ought to be congratulated for supporting all of us and the game in such a way. I would also like to thank my own sponsors, Alfred Dunhill, who are helping me get entries into some tournaments. I hope I continue to play like this and keep the Indian flag flying. And finally I must say Simon Dyson was a great competitor and it was great playing with on the final.

He is in his rookie year and his play has been inspiring. Now I look forward to playing on the European Tour and hopefully more wins will follow. (Tiger Sports Marketing)
