Uttaranchal House's first-ever session to be held in Jan DEHRADUN, NOV 30: The first-ever session of the interim Assembly of the newly created state of Uttaranchal would be held in January. A decision in this regard was taken by the Uttaranchal Cabinet, which met here today. In its second meeting, the Cabinet decided only the date of convening the interim Assembly. Briefing newspersons later about the decisions, Uttaranchal Chief Secretary Ajay Vikram Singh said the session would start on January 9, 2001. Chief Minister Nityanand Swami had earlier announced that legislators of the interim Assembly would be administered the oath by the pro-tem Speaker on November 29 and a new speaker would also be elected. But, a few days ago, soon after returning from New Delhi, the Chief Minister announced that he was postponing the proposed session. According to party sources, the Chief Minister's inability to reach a consensus on the name of the Speaker of the House had led to the delay. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
