MTNL union withdraws strike notice; Paswan accepts demands
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, DEC 18: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd(MTNL) staff union of Class III and IV employees today withdrew their indefinite strike notice from December 19, after the government accepted their major demands related to wage revision and other benefits.

"The union has decided to withdraw the strike notice as the government has accepted most of our demands," Sarup Singh, general secretary of the union, told newsmen after a meeting with Communications Minister Ram Vilas Paswan here.

He said that the union had decided to call off the proposed stir as the government had agreed to the demands relating to promotion policy, pay anomalies and applicability of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Pension schemes to MTNL employees.

Paswan told reporters after the 45 minute-long meeting, that the government agreed to place some of the demands before the MTNL board, including that related to Employee Stock Options Plan (ESOP).

The Union, representing Class III and IV employees, had earlier given a `tool down, pen down' strike notice to MTNL CMD Narendar Sharma, accusing the management of "not taking seriously the recognised majority union of MTNL".
