Barua denies injury to him, deputy safe
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

DEC 18: The ULFA Commander-in-Chief Paresh Barua has denied that he has been injured in any clash between ULFA cadres in Bangladesh and that his deputy Raju Barua has been killed, according to reports in two local vernacular dailies published on Monday.

The dailies claimed that Barua rang them up last night to say he was hale and hearty and Raju Barua was `also not attacked'.

The top ULFA leader alleged that the report was the handiwork of the government, administration and army as they were "frustrated with the spread of ULFA's network, public support, huge quantities of arms and ammunitions at their disposal".

"The authorities are disappointed at their inability to crush the ULFA and as a result they are resorting to all kinds of propaganda", he was quoted as saying.

Assam Rifles in-charge of publicity for Tripura Maj A Bhargava had made a statement in a press release in Agartala on Sunday which read: It is believed that Paresh Barua has been seriously injured and shifted to a Dhaka hospital under high security. Raju Barua has been killed.

The release said the it was "reliably learnt" this occurred during an encounter between two rival factions of ULFA in the Chittagong Hill Tracts on Saturday at approximately 1630 hrs.
