Infosys to expand Hyderabad software unit
AGENCIES

JAN 11: Software bluechip Infosys Technologies said on Thursday it would invest Rs 1.8 billion ($38.6 million) over the next three years to expand its software development centre in the southern city of Hyderabad. The statement said that the centre would house 1,200 professionals in the first phase and another 1,300 in the second and third phases.

Nasdaq-listed Infosys currently employs about 60 computer software professionals in Hyderabad, which is emerging as a new centre for India's booming tech sector. "Infosys has followed a strategy of setting up software development campuses which help tap local talent," Infosys chairman N R Narayana Murthy said in a statement.

Infosys has software development centres in eight cities in India including Bangalore and three outside the country -- in Toronto, Boston and London. At the Bombay Stock Exchange, the Infosys shares on Thursday closed 2.2 per cent lower at Rs 5,541.45, while the benchmark Bombay index dropped 0.51 per cent.
