Mumbai, Jan 21: Once again, producer-director Rakesh Roshan’s Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai proved it was not only a box-office blockbuster, but also a cinematic genius, having bagged eight trophies at the 7th Annual Screen-Videocon Awards at the Andheri Sports Complex on Saturday, January 20, 2001.These included awards in such coveted categories as Best Film, Best Director (Rakesh Roshan), Best Actor (Hrithik Roshan), Best Music (Rajesh Roshan), Best Male Playback Singer (Lucky Ali), Best Editing (Sanjay Verma), Best Choreography (Farah Khan) and Most Promising Male Newcomer (Hrithik Roshan).
The darling of Indian parallel cinema, Tabu took home the Best Actress award for her powerful-yet-underplayed performance in Astitva, while Sanjay Dutt was declared the Best Supporting Actor for his turn in Mission Kashmir. Co-host of the evening Sonali Bendre was pleasantly surprised to discover that she’d snagged the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai.
In the Marathi films category, Mrugjal was declared Best Film while Mahesh Kothare was announced the Best Director for Khatarnaak. Amitabh Bachchan was announced the receipient of the Best Television Anchor award for his enigmatic presence on Star Plus’ Kaun Banega Crorepati.
