TMMK to oppose and prevent Ram temple construction
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

CHENNAI, JAN 21: The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) said today that all Muslim outfits in Tamil Nadu would join hands and oppose the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

``The matter is before the Supreme Court now. We will abide by the decision of the court and if the VHP-sponsored dharam sansad went ahead with its plans to construct the temple there, we will stoutly oppose and prevent it,'' M H Jawahirullah, TMMK State President, told a news conference here.

He said the sansad's declaration amounted to contempt of court and therefore the members of the sansad should be taken to task for their statements and even arrested.

Jawahirullah said the Kazhagam's decision to `jail bharo' agitation slated for Jan.23 in Chennai and district headquarters had been withdrawn, as the state government had partially conceded its demand for entrusting a couple of murder cases to the CB-SIT.

If the government did not accept the Kazhagam's demand for referring the `idol breaking' incidents at Melapalayam and Dharapuram, it would organise protest meetings soon in the state, he said.
