Pentagon shows Linda the door
WASHINGTON, JAN 21: The Pentagon has sacked Linda R Tripp, the whistleblower of former US President Bill Clinton’s affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, from the Defence Department’s public affair’s office saying she was a political appointee and have to go with the change in administration. "She (Tripp) was a political appointee at the Pentagon. Having been recommended by the White House to remove her from there and like the other 3,000 odd political appointees, she would have to go with the change in administration," the Pentagon said yesterday. Tripp, who was holding the $98,744 position in the public affairs office of Pentagon, was instrumental in leaking to media and FBI, the tape recorded statement about Clinton’s affair with Lewinsky, which in 1998 led to unsuccessful impeachment proceedings against the President. Tripp, who was sacked yesterday, said had she been at the White House, she would have been a civil servant with job security and she did not seek the Pentagon job.
