9 accused's acquittal challenged in JMM case, HC issues notice
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, JAN 25: The Delhi High Court today issued notices to CBI and nine persons acquitted in the JMM MPs bribery case on a petition challenging their acquittal by the trial court in October last year.

Justice R S Sodhi directed CBI and all the nine acquitted persons including former Union ministers Capt Satish Sharma, Ajit Singh and former Haryana and Karnataka chief ministers Bhajan Lal and M Veerappa Moily respectively to file their replies by February 5.

The others, who were issued notices, are former Rajya Sabha MP V Rajeshwar Rao, two former Karnataka ministers H M Revenna and Ramalinga Reddy and two Bengalore-based liquor barons D K Aadikesavulu and M Thimme Gowda.

All of them had been acquitted by a special CBI court here on October 12 giving them benefit of doubt in the absence of substantial evidence while convicting former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao and his Cabinet colleague Buta Singh in the case.
