Padma Bhushan for Anand, Padma Shri to Paes, Bhupathi, Dhanraj

JAN 25: Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand who gave Indians a new sense of pride by becoming the World Chess champion, has been awarded Padma Bhushan in the Republic Day honours list.

The tennis duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi as well as the mercurial hockey spearhead Dhanraj Pillay have been bestowed Padma Shri.

Bhuwaneswari Kumari of Alwar, who earned a place for herself in the Guiness Book of World Records by winning the National squash title 16 times in a row, also gets Padma Shri as does the disabled athlete Malati Holla.

Veteran Sports Journalist and owner of Mumbai's Mid Day newspaper, Khalid Ansari too will be honoured with Padma Shri.
