Shah moves court for bail
Express News Service

MUMBAI, FEB 15: Jailed diamond merchant Bharat Shat has moved the Bombay High Court for bail and has challenged the order of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime court rejecting his application.

Justice S S Parkar before whom the matter was mentioned has posted the hearing to February 23, 2001. Shah has challenged the procedure for interception of alleged telephone conversation as being inadmissible in law. He has also harped on the issues not considered by the trial court. He has pointed out that since his interrogation was apparently over his custodial detention is no longer required.

He said the designated court had failed to appreciate the submission made by his counsel. He added that he was falsely implicated in the case and the provision of MCOCA wrongly applied to him.
