Encephalitis claims four in Nashik

NASHIK, FEB 24: Encephalitis has claimed four lives and affected 15 persons, six of them critically, in Dighwad village in Chandwad tehsil of Nashik district.

The deceased included Bhagoji Yeshwant Gangurde (60), Bhaskar Kedu Gangurde (31), Kalabai Balwant Khairnar (64) and Laxmibai Bhagoji Gangurde (54).

Out of the 15 others affected by the disease, six are critical and have been admitted to the Nashik Civil Hospital.

Officials from the Zila Parishad and the Health Department of the state government have visited the village and stepped up medical facilities. The village has been facing a drinking water scarcity and relies on water supplied by tankers. The residents live in unhygeinic conditions and the village is infested by mosquitoes.
