The most beautiful campus

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Guwahati or IIT-G), the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994 and the academic programme commenced in 1995.

It is one growing up fast to be one of the most promising engineering research centres in the world today and like other members of the IIT fraternity, it is mainly known for the quality of its undergradutate curriculum.

IIT-Guwahati campus is unarguably one of the most beautiful campuses in India. It is situated on the northern banks of the mighty river Brahmaputra and the sprawling 705 acres campus in the lands of "The Red River and Blue Hills" attracts many visitors by its spell-binding picturesque surroundings.

The young IIT with its dynamic students and visionary faculty has produced many successful technologists and continues to develop and diversify each year, while maintaining the renowned 'IIT' standards in education and research.

Currently IIT-Guwahati houses the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Biotechnology (BT), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Chemical Engineering (CHE), Civil Engineering (CE), Mathematics (MA), Physics (PH) and Chemistry (CH).

IIT-G is also currently home to a very unique Department of Design (DoD) and 6 Centers of Research. This community is for all IIT Guwahati Alumni, to share news, views and reviews about the unforgetable IIT-G times.

Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up the necessary infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments.

Presently there are about 1300 students on rolls, 152 faculty members and 250 support staff.

Unlike any other member of the IIT fraternity IIT Guwahati has the distinct achievement of having accomplished this rapid self dependence without collaboration or assistance from any foreign university or government.
The Indian Institutes of Technology need no introduction either in India or abroad, for their alumni have already made their presence felt everywhere. The Institutes were set up by the Government of India as 'Institutions of National Importance' and almost all reputed international academic benchmarks have given them high rating.
