An organisation of Kashmiri pandits on Tuesday accused the government of neglecting the community and demanded doubling of the relief amount given to the displaced people as an inter-ministerial team visited a migrant camp in Delhi.
Kashmir Samiti president Sunil Shakdher told the team headed by Sushma Choudhary that the community must be given an opportunity to lead an honourable and dignified life in their own "homeland" and registered protest over "deletion" of names of pandits from the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of civic polls.
The team, set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after his J&K visit in November, was visiting the Baljeet Nagar camp to assess the condition of the migrants.
Shakdher demanded that the relief amount be raised immediately from Rs 3200 to Rs 6400 per month per family, a release issued by the Samiti said. He also demanded that DDA flats be allotted to all Kashmiri migrants free of cost till they are in a position to go back to the valley.
The Samiti also demanded fresh registration of kashmiri migrants.
