Efforts to repatriate the Kashmiri Pandits today hit a roadblock with the Panun Kashmir Movement writing to the United Nations for inclusion in the Kashmir peace process.
"Kashmiri Pandits do not want to return to the valley at this juncture as the sense of insecurity still prevails and our community leaders have not been taken into confidence by the government," organisation President Ashwani Kumar told reporters here today.
The movement had written to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan asking him to impress upon the "Indian government, the need to include Kashmiri Pandits in the peace process on Kashmir in which the separatists are involved", he claimed.
"This would be the first phase of internationalising our plight and, in the second phase, we will be approaching diplomats of various countries to seek their support for inclusion of Pandits in the ongoing peace talks on the Kashmir issue," Kumar said.
The Pandit leader also rejected the ‘sole claim’ of separatists as being the representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The separatist leaders have no right to project themselves as a party in the so-called tripartite or triangular dialogue process," Kumar said while referring to the Hurriyat moderate faction's demand for inclusion in the Indo-Pakistan dialogue process.
"They do not represent the Kashmiri Pandits at all," he added.
