“It is a welcome step taken by Hurriyat Conference,” Sayeed said commenting on the day-long meeting between the separatist amalgam and the Pandit leaders at Hurriyat headquarters at Rajbagh in Srinagar on Tuesday.

“The initiative taken by Hurriyat Conference is a good omen. It is a very good step to invite the migrant Pandits and discuss the issue of their dignified return to their homes and hearths,” the Chief Minister said after inaugurating a Community Centre at Sankoo, 40 km from Kargil.

He said the coalition government was not for division of the people but for unifying the people of all castes, regions and colour.

Asked about the steps taken by his government for rehabilitation of Pandits, Sayeed said measures have to be intensified for constructing flats for their rehabilitation at Sheikhpora in Badgam district, Tulmullah in Srinagar and temple township of Mattan in Anantnag.

“A total of 1500 applications have been received by the government from Kashmiri Pandits desirous of returning to Kashmir but we have only 200 flats ready for their rehabilitation at Sheikhpora,” he said.

Government is determined to complete the process within this year, the Chief Minister said.
