In an effort to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the 5000-year-old Kashmir Valley civilisation, an organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits today announced to celebrate September 18 as ‘Kashmir Day’ across the nation.
"We will celebrate September 18, the day of vitastajayanti (veth trevah), which is the incarnation of goddess Sati and Parvati, as Kashmir Day to portray ancient Kashmir's 5000 year-old civilisation and culture, across the country," Ramesh Hangloo, president of Pir Panchal, an Non-Government Organisation, told reporters here today.
The Kashmir Day is aimed at addressing the roots of Kashmir Pandits of the Valley, which has remained the fountainhead of the ancient Hindu civilisation's centre for spiritualism and culture, Hangloo said.
In this direction, a mega function would be held on September 18 at Jammu where Maharashtra's Chief Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, among others are scheduled to attend, he added.
