Issues of minorities, KPs raised at international fora: Chrungoo

Jammu, October 9:

THE issues and plights of minorities and Kashmiri Pandits had been highlighted at the international fora by the Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD), revealed Ashwani Chrungoo, the Indian representative of the GHRD, while speaking to media here today.

He said that on this mission, he had taken tour to five European nations including United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, France and Netherlands, and had interactions and meetings with human rights groups in those countries, on issues relating to the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir.

He added that a meeting was also held with the Indo-European Kashmir Forum (IEKF) at London. He said that he was joined by other members of the delegation from South Asia in the Netherlands where a four-day conference was held by the GHRD, at Hague. He added that M.M.Khajuria, former J-K DGP was a member of the delegation from South Asia, representing the minorities of the J&K state.

He further added that the issues which were raised at the conference, included human rights situation of the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir and other regions, possibility of conflict management, campaigning and protection, humanitarian aid programmes, human rights monitoring and documentation, international relations development and human rights education programme.

Ashwini Chrungoo presented the case of the Kashmiri Pandit refugees at the conference and also delivered the key-note address in the inaugural session of the conference.
