About the Awards

As part of the centenary year celebrations of its founder, Ramnath Goenka, The Express Group instituted the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards. The Awards aim to celebrate excellence in journalism, recognize courage and commitment and showcase outstanding contributions and individuals every year.

The Awards for Excellence in Journalism honours journalists from both Print and Broadcast media who have shown extraordinary strength of character and integrity while reporting news accurately under dangerous or difficult circumstances. Their story or series will have exposed major issues or problems. It would have provoked the public to recognize a major wrong and raised public awareness of the issue or involved taking extraordinary risks to reach a story that would not have been accessible easily.

The Awards pay tribute to journalists who encourage public trust in the media by courageously practising the highest standards of their profession in the face of political or economic pressures. Journalists, whose work is fair, accurate and which is inclusive of reportage of corruption, malpractice and issues that affect the life of their readers and the well being of the community and the nation. Journalists who don't just report the news but are crusading in their efforts towards bringing forward the ultimate truth.
