Ramnath Goenka Awards for Excellence in Journalism celebrates the values that stand for good journalism: excellence & enterprise, courage & fairness. In the third consecutive year, the awards will cover the entire gamut of Indian media, Print & Broadcast, in English & Indian languages.

Ramnath Goenka Memorial Foundation will accept nominations for Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards 2007 in the following categories covering Print & Broadcast media (television) in the categories, as listed below:

RAMNATH GOENKA JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR
The jury will pick the most outstanding media personality of the year, in both categories, from nominations by editors/heads of media houses or from among the winners of other categories of awards.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 2,50,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR REPORTING FROM J&K AND THE NORTHEAST
This award will recognize outstanding journalistic efforts from two of the most challenging regions in India for any reporter: J&K and the Northeast.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 100,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR HINDI
This award will go to a journalist each in Print & Broadcast media whose coverage of an event or issue stood out for excellence, independence, depth, quality and impact in the national language.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 100,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR REGIONAL LANGUAGES
This award will go to a journalist each in Print & Broadcast media whose coverage of an event or issue stood out for excellence, quality, independence, depth and impact in the regional languages. Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 100,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL REPORTING
This award will be given to an author of an article or series in a newspaper, magazine or television that makes an exceptional contribution to public awareness & understanding of environmental issues. The report/series of reports must be a substantive work that covers a story completely & raises public consciousness & awareness about environment.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 1,00,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR UNCOVERING INDIA INVISIBLE
The award will honour substantive Print or television reporting that covers rural issues intelligently. It may be awarded for explanatory or expository journalism & will be judged on general excellence, quality of writing, forcefulness & importance to the public interest.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 1, 00,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT COVERING INDIA
This award will go to foreign correspondents in Print & Broadcast media, for coverage that most accurately & sensitively portrays India to a foreign audience.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 1,00,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC JOURNALISM
The award will go to a journalist who shows the highest standards of independence, rigour, depth & analysis while covering any aspect of business or economy.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 1,00,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR POLITICAL REPORTING
This award will go to a journalist each in Print & Broadcast media whose coverage helps develop a unique understanding of politics & the political process.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 1,00,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR SPORTS JOURNALISM
This award will go to a journalist each in Print & Broadcast media whose coverage explores new avenues, finds a new direction in reporting sports.

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR FILM AND TELEVISION JOURNALISM
This award will go to a journalist each in Print & Broadcast media whose coverage sets new standards in reporting the world of entertainment.
Print & Broadcast - The prize money for each category is Rs. 1,00,000/-

RAMNATH GOENKA EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARD FOR BOOKS (NON - FICTION)
This award will go to a writer/writers whose published work, through in-depth research & investigation, covers an issue/idea on a scale which newspapers or television channels with their limited space & time cannot aspire to tackle. This award will be for Books published in English language.
Print - The prize money is Rs. 1,00,000/-

EXCELLENCE IN REPORTING ON HIV/AIDS English and Marathi
The Ramnath Goenka Memorial Foundation is pleased to continue its association with USAID, Avert Society and The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Program (CCP) (http://www.jhuccp.org/pressroom/2008/04-24.shtml) in the category of Awards for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Journalism

The awards will cover the Indian print media in English and Marathi, and will be given to an author of an article or series in a newspaper or magazine that makes an exceptional contribution to public awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS issues. The report/series of reports must be a substantive work that covers a story comprehensively and raises public consciousness and awareness about HIV/AIDS issues. The entries will be judged on general excellence, quality of writing and coverage that most accurately, objectively and sensitively portrays HIV/AIDS and leads to a greater awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS issues. Due emphasis will be given to use of appropriate language, gender sensitivity, ethical and human rights considerations.

The two award winners, one each in English and Marathi will be nominated to attend the three week Leadership in Strategic Health Communication Workshop at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/ Centre for Communication Programs in Baltimore, USA in June 2009.

PRAKASH KARDALEY MEMORIAL AWARD FOR CIVIC JOURNALISM
This award, instituted in memory of The Indian Express’s former Resident Editor in Pune, Prakash Kardaley, will honour a print journalist whose sustained effort highlights a civic issue and forces the authorities to find a solution to it. Kardaley, who defined pro-active journalism and newspaper campaigns in Pune, was also one of the prime movers behind the Right to Information Act. The award aims to recognize effective and (DELETE) pro-active local reporting that makes a difference to the lives of the citizens.
