The Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards have established its reputation as the most prestigious and the most sought-after in journalism, known for rewarding journalists who show extraordinary strength of character and integrity while reporting news accurately under dangerous or difficult circumstances, thus building credibility in Indian Media.

Exhibition on the winning stories of 2005-06

The Indian Express is proud to present an exhibition showcasing this years winning stories and pictures of winners like Barkha Dutt, George Varghese and Praveen Swami receiving their awards from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the award ceremony which was held in Delhi in April 2006. We hope that this initiative will not only encourage more journalists to send in their entries for the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards 2006 – 07, but also inspires aspirations amongst young and upcoming journalists.

Express Classroom - September 8th

On Friday the 8th of September, Thirty BMM (Bachelor of Mass Media) journalism students from St.Xavier’s College and KC College spent the afternoon in conversation with editors from the Indian Express and the Financial Express. Ideas were exchanged and discussed, questions were answered ranging from the much debated issue of objectivity and its existence in the media. Other ideas put forth and asked about were the issues of which story makes the front page, scoops, sensationalism, technology influencing a story, and advertisements influencing editorial matter; among others. The basic tenets of good journalism were also discussed.

Express Classroom – September 18th

EIJ winner for Business and Economic Journalism 2005 – 06, Menaka Doshi, (Mumbai Bureau Chief – CNBC TV18) spent an afternoon interacting with journalism students. The aspiring journalists got an opportunity to discuss with Doshi a variety of issues ranging from social and political pressures on reporters to professional ethics in journalism. Menaka concluded the afternoon with these few words of advice, ‘You are never your best. You always have to work hard to be better. These are just moments of excellence’.
