Anupam Kher’s fearless crusade
Anupam Kher, a prominent member of the Panun Kashmir (an organisation of the displaced and tormented Kashmiri pandits) made an emotionally charged appeal to the central government, the state government of Jammu and Kashmir headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah, the people of India and the world to save the Kashmiri pandits who were living “haunted lives of harrassment, hackings and humiliation”. He was speaking at a press conference to condemn the recent killings of 23 innocent Kashmiri pandits in Udhampur. Kher who has been consistently raising his voice against the atrocities heaped on the Kashmiri pandits condemned the failure of the Farooq Abdullah government for being unable to provide security to the Kashmiri pandits. “Dr Abdullah, armed with black cats, came to meet me in Mumbai to request us to shoot in the valley. How can he provide security to the Pandits in the valley? How can he provide security to us when and if we shoot there?” Kher asked.

Zee sues Philips India for dues
The Zee Network has filed a winding petition in the Calcutta High Court against the multinational Philips India Limited for non-payment of dues. With the two petitions filed by Asia Today Ltd and Ambience Space Sellers Ltd, Zee TV seems to have decided to act tough with its major defaulter clients.

Justice Sujit Kumar Sinha of the Calcutta High Court has directed Philips India to file its affidavit in reply within three weeks from the date of the order — within May 12, 1998.
