Of the total hundred marks, on which the merit list of the students is ascertained, the WBSSC has increased the marks of the respective subject from 40 to 60 for applicants to the post of assistant teacher.
Issuing the notification for 9,353 vacancies next year, WBSSC chairman Ronojit Basu, said: “We are stressing on the quality of teachers who have a thorough knowledge in their subjects.”
The examination this year will be held on December 23 and the duration of the examination has been increased from 1 hour 35 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, added the chairman. Earlier, the written examination was for 60 marks. Now it will be for 70 marks. As per the new recommendations, 60 marks will be allocated for the subject and 10 marks for General Knowledge.
The general knowledge examination will now include elementary English and Maths apart from General Knowledge.
The marks of the academic performance has been reduced from 30 to 25 and that of personal interview has been reduced from 10 to 5 to give more importance to the subject. The weightage for having BEd and a Master degree has also been reduced in terms of marks allotted. However, when called for interview the candidates with BEd degree will be given preference.
In order to do away with reappearing of successful candidates, the commission has set up some new regulations.
Candidates applying henceforth will apply for the same category of posts but will not be allowed to reappear for the examination within three years of their employment. The commission has for the first time invited the application for the computer application and computer science.
The graduates of computer science and agriculture can also fill up the application forms for work education, as they are all in the category of vocational courses. The commission will have a separate panel for selection of candidates in case of schools and madarsas from the next year. It will also issue different coloured forms for pass and honours for schools and madarsas, which will be available at selected counters of Allahabad Bank from October 7 to 16.
“We have gone one step ahead and to make the system more fool proof. The commission will record the signature and photograph of the students during the examination, personality test, as well as the counselling session and even at the time of joining the school,” said Basu.
