Guwahati, December 1: Assam Government recommended a CBI probe into the Adivasi-public clash in Guwahati last week, claiming three lives and leaving nearly 300 injured.

"The state government has decided for a CBI inquiry to find out the real culprit. I don't want to hide anything. Police lapses are there. Definitely there were some lapses," Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said.

"The Adivasis have demanded a CBI probe. CBI has a machinery to delve deep into the incident. I'll see to it that the agency takes up the inquiry and finish their investigations as soon as possible," Gogoi said.

Asked if the judicial inquiry already ordered would be halted on the commencement of the CBI probe, he said, "Let's see. We may stop the judicial one. There was a political conspiracy to malign the government and to create a rift between the two communities (Adivasis and local people)," the Chief Minister added.
