New York, December 11: Even as many NRIs line up to back Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for assembly elections, a Congress-linked group in US has flayed the BJP regime saying it had brought "disrepute" to the state in the international arena.

The Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC) urged the voters to "re-assert their faith in Gandhian values by repudiating forces currently engaged in divisive politics", which was "spilling over" to diaspora also.

The ongoing elections in the state were a "golden opportunity" for voters to correct the situation, INOC's General Secretary George Abraham said in a statement.

INOC President Dr Surinder Malhotra urged voters to bring back the Gandhian value of "peace and harmony" and dynamism for which the State was known.

The current state of intimidation and fear must be reversed, he added, asking voters to make a right decision.
