Nandigram, December 23 The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) found 76 country-made bombs near the banks of Talpatti canal in the Khejuri police station area in Midnapur East district on Sunday.

The Talpatti canal runs between Khejuri and Nandigram with the former being a CPM stronghold.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of about 25 CRPF personnel went to the Janani brick kiln area near the canal here with sniffer dogs and found the bombs hidden in the bushes.

Confirming the incident, CRPF Assistant Commandant Arindam Upadhyay said: “The bombs have been handed over to the state police.” They have been kept at the Khejuri police station.

The locals here have been alleging for a long time now that arms and ammunitions have been dumped on the banks of the Talpatti canal.

On March 17, the CBI had arrested 10 people hiding in the Janani brick kiln on charges of rioting and stumbled on a stockpile of arms and ammunitions.

Recently, on December 6, police had recovered half-burnt human bodies, wrapped in thick paper, from the five graves in Khejuri.
