Rampur (UP), January 1: Accusing the Centre for spurt in terrorist activities in the country, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that withdrawal of POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) by the UPA government encouraged militants.

“Withdrawal of POTA by the UPA government at the Centre had encouraged terrorists,” said Singh, who along with another BJP leader Mukhtar Aabbas Naqvi laid wreath on the bodies of the seven CRPF jawans and a civilian killed in a militant attack this morning in Rampur.

He blamed previous Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh for taking SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) “lightly” and encouraging it by saying that there was no activities of the organisation in the state.

Singh said that during his tenure as the state chief minister, he had banned SIMI but the subsequent governments, especially SP, ignored its activities and network which is leading to the problem now.
